the-watch-galleryThis week we have been posting news about exceptional new timepieces from certain brands that have been unveiled at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva. The Salon is an opportunity for an exclusive group of fine watchmakers to put on show for watch professionals and journalists their new collection for the coming year. The Salon is organised by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie.

At this years opening ceremony, Fabienne Lupo (Managing Director, SIHH),said “Our new models for 2010 are examples of tradition and innovation, artistry, craftsmanship and technology. They refocus on the fundamental values of Fine Watchmaking and pay tribute to centuries-old expertise, handed down between generations. The same expertise that has always seduced our customers and which remains our greatest asset.”

The tradition of these Salons started in 1991 with only five exhibitors. It was created to promote fine watches and to offer an elegant setting for an elite clientèle. Now, in 2010 and the twentieth year of the Salon, there are 19 exhibitors.

The Watch Gallery, in London, is an authorised dealer for five of these exclusive brands, they are Girard Perregaux, Jaeger LeCoultre, JeanRichard, Parmigiani and Panerai.

The new collections of the 19 luxury brands of fine watches were displayed in over 30 000 square meters of exhibition space. And despite the concerns about the economy worldwide in 2009, the 2010 Salon showed no sign of being negatively effected. The number of visitors to this prestigious exhibition was up 10% on the figures for 2009.

Over the next week or so there will be news posted here and on The Watch Gallery website about the new timepieces unveiled this week at the Salon in Geneva.
